The FCSD is a private non-profit organization, founded on March 30th, 1984, and declared of public interest on October 24th of that same year. It is number 61 in the Foundations Register of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Realidades Paralelas, a Music CD in which 10 persons with Down syndrome have written the letters
The Catalan Down syndrome Foundation in collaboration with the Institute of Culture of Barcelona and the General Society for Authors has published a Music CD in which 10 persons with Down syndrome have written the letters and collaborated in composing the music of 10 songs and are the actors of a video clip. Neglect and exclusion are still too common even in our society. With this we hope to increase the visibility and public recognition of the capacities of the Down syndrome persons in a context of normality. However, we need your help. Government’s Saint George’s Cross to the Catalan Down Syndrome Foundation
On 7 April, at the proposal of the Minister of Culture and Media, Joan Manuel Tresserras Gaju, in agreement with the Government and represented by the President of the Catalan Government, José Montilla Aguilera:
granted the Catalan Government’s Saint George’s Cross to the Catalan Down Syndrome Foundation
"to acknowledge the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Foundation, whose dedication has improved the lives of those with this syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. The organisation’s work facilitates integration into society and helps them achieve a greater level of dignity, respect, independence and wellbeing"

Golden Cross of the Civil Order of the Social Solidarity to Montserrat Trueta
January 23th, 2008. Montserrat Trueta, FCSD president, received from the Queen Doña Sofía the “Golden Cross of the Civil Order of the Social Solidarity 2007”, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The awards, by proposal of the Secretary of State for Social Services, recognize people and institutions standing out for Humanitarian assistance in social disadvantage.
